v.1

A dozen brothers in a new domain

Laying German roots on the Kansas plains

Crossed the Flint Hills to give a look

Dropped the plow in the dirt near Shadybrook

My great grandpa was one of the twelve

Carved a piece of the prairie all for themselves

And there they proudly placed their bet

You can’t beat a Kansas sunset

Chorus

The tracks run out and the trains roll through

And the stories my parents never knew

Late nights out under starlit skies

County League ball on Sunday nights

No stop lights in this town of tales

Round and round on the rock n roll carousel

The more things change the more they stay the same

In my little home on the range

v2.

I’m 5th generation running old steel wheels

Iron horses run wild through waving wheat fields

My family handled that freight with care

And my daddy proudly led me there

As the last in line I ended our reign

After 25 years driving the crazy train.

Looking back on the places I have been

With the people of the south wind.

Chorus

The tracks run out and the trains roll through

And the stories my parents never knew

Late nights out under starlit skies

County League ball on Sunday nights

No stop lights in this town of tales

Round and round on the rock n roll carousel

The more things change the more they stay the same

In my little home on the range.
